Open Swim & Lap Swim

Open Swim

Open swim times are a fun way to improve swimming skills and stay active.

Children 8 years old and younger must be accompanied by an adult—18 and above—in the water.

Lap Swim

Swim laps in our 25 yard lap lanes.

Open lap swimmers may split the lane or circle swim with two or less swimmers; the swimmer in the lane first gets to choose. Laps swimmers are required to circle swim if a third person enters the lane. All persons 14 years of age and younger who wish to swim laps need to be tested by a lifeguard before entering the water. Children younger than 9 need to be accompanied by a responsible adult. Lane availability will be impacted throughout the day due to other programs usage. Please refer to the schedule for those impacted times.

The primary role of our YMCA Lifeguards is the prevention of drowning. Our first defense against drowning is proactively restricting non-swimmers and inexperienced swimmers to shallow water and having constant adult supervision. The restrictions are monitored via color-coded wristbands.

Shallow water is defined as water that is no deeper than your armpit.

Our Swim Band Tests for kids ensure they can use our pools outside their swim lessons. Children receive color-coded wristbands for their ability to swim in different areas of our pool.

All persons 13 years of age and younger are evaluated and banded each visit. All persons 13 years of age and younger must wear appropriate color-coded wristbands at all times when they are in or around the pool area. Those not complying will be asked to leave the pool.
