Sherwood Recreational Center
Sherwood Recreational Center | City Council Vote
The Sherwood City Council, in a three to three vote, selected Health Fitness to start the contract negotiation process to operate the Sherwood Recreational Center beginning October 2018. We are extremely disappointed with the outcome and are stunned by the decision.
Health Fitness won what became a tie breaker because two of the three City Council members who ranked Health Fitness first, also placed the YMCA in the third position behind Tualatin Hills Parks and Recreation.
Of note, if the contract process with Health Fitness is not successful, the YMCA would be asked to begin the process. In addition, when the contract is completed it must go back to the City Council for approval.
Sherwood Recreational Proposal Comparisons
The City posted five Proposals on their website and your YMCA compared very favorably to the other proposals. We shared this information with our Members and Participants and included a Proposal Comparison that provided an overview of the key differences. Information on the comparisons was updated online Aug. 3, based on a change to one proposal.

City of Sherwood's YMCA Feasibility Study
The City of Sherwood owns the YMCA’s Sherwood facility and we have been good partners for 19 years. The City evaluated other potential providers to manage and operate the facility and its related programs, starting on Oct. 31, 2018, and developed and executed an RFP process. The City or the YMCA must give notice by Oct. 31, 2017, or the contract will automatically renew for another five years.
We applaud the City for ordering a Feasibility Study, which lists several operators with pros and cons to each. The study highlighted your YMCA in many positive ways, and provided us with the opportunity to respond and clarify several key areas. Feasibility Study & YMCA Responses
