What adult aquatic fitness programs do you offer at the Sherwood YMCA?
Poolates
This class will improve your core strength and balance, with a mix of pilates and yoga in the water.
Power Water Walking
This class is designed for building strength, stamina, flexibility, range of motion, balance, coordination and a cardio workout.
Water Workout
This high-energy, group exercise class is tailored for those who want a good aerobic workout minus the knee, joints and back stress.
SilverSplash®
Activate your aqua urge for variety! SilverSplash® offers LOTS of fun and shallow water moves to improve agility, flexibility and cardiovascular endurance. No swimming ability is required and a special SilverSplash® kick board is used to develop strength, balance and coordination.
Arthritis H²O Exercise
The Arthritis Foundation Aquatic Program allows you to exercise without putting excess strain on your joints and muscles. The gentle activities in warm water, with guidance from a trained instructor, help improve strength and flexibility. Participants enjoy decreased pain and stiffness. Swimming is not required.
Deep Water Exercise
This full-body water aerobic class is an ideal class for those seeking low impact activity. To participate, you should be comfortable in deep water.
Pre and Post-Natal Fitness
A medically approved program for stretching, muscle toning and aerobic activity done in water. Low intensity class. Great opportunity to meet expecting and new mothers.
Masters Swim Program
This unique swim program is designed for adults (18 and over) interested in receiving coached training to advance their swimming abilities. Four practices are offered per week. All skill levels welcome.
Adult Swim Lessons
Group and private lessons are offered for adults interested in first-time swimming or improving a particular skill. All levels welcome.

Cardio Blast
A circuit/interval-formatted class using drills, benches, music, intervals, weights and bands designed to keep your cardio routine fresh and challenging.
Cardio Kick
This fast paced class incorporates kicks, punches and blocks to work the heart and sculpt the body through an exhilarating workout session.
Cardio Sculpt
This fast paced sculpting class utilizes free weights, the step, resistance tubing and the body to strengthen and tone while burning calories aerobically.
Circuit Express
A fast and efficient workout using a combination of tools and intervals to improve cardiovascular endurance while building strength.
Core Conditioning
One hour of intense abdominal conditioning using Pilates moves, stability balls, weights and bands for a complete toning experience.
Cycling
An indoor group class set to invigorating music for lower body resistance training and cardiovascular challenge.
Dance X
Old school aerobics is given a new twist in this dance exercise class. Hip music combined with catchy routines make for a fun yet easy-to-follow cardio class.
Family Fitness
Kids 8 and up accompanied by an adult are invited to experience this amazing, fun family workout. Class comes complete with unique circuits, drills, sprints, weights, toning, and games designed with all types of kids in mind, from fitness beginners to athletic cross-trainers.
Muscle Conditioning
This fitness class welcomes all levels to engage in deeper toning through defining and strengthening muscles while boosting the heart’s efficiency.
Pilates
Pilates offers a progressive workout for beginners to elite athletes to better tone and strengthen core muscles without adding bulk.
Step
Utilizing a bench for increased movement, step aerobics offers an incredible workout that is fun to learn while maintaining an intense, cardio-rich challenge.
Basic step
This class offers simpler footwork for those just learning step movement or those who want a more athletic class. NOTE: The abs class is 15 minutes of core work prior to the beginning of Basic Step.
TBC (Total Body Conditioning)
A challenging class designed to work all muscle groups using a variety of formats including weights, the step, tubing and bands, aerobics and muscle endurance for an intense multi-purpose workout.
Yoga (Beginning to Intermediate)
Rich with holistic benefits that relax the mind and body, yoga combines strength, flexibility and balance to help improve physical movement and reduce stress
Beginning Power Yoga
Contrary to traditional yoga where positions are held for long durations, this class offers poses at a faster pace to help beginners find a more pleasurable experience.
Zumba
An aerobic, hypnotic, fast-paced dance class with awesome music designed with simple moves and plenty of energy. Think party, think Zumba.
Zumba Gold
Designed for beginners interested in experiencing the power of Zumba but at a simpler, slower pace.
ZumbAtomic: Zumba 4 Tweens
A wonderful class designed especially for kids ages 8 – 13 to encourage dance, movement, play, all the while having fun with friends.

What programs do you offer for active older adults at the Sherwood YMCA?
Walking Classes
Bring a good pair of shoes and an upbeat attitude for this safe and easy-to-do aerobic activity. Participants will use the inside track as well as our surrounding community.
Y Knit
Whether you’re a beginner or a seasoned pro, never knit a stitch in your life or haven’t stopped sewing since they day you started, consider spending some time with us. Our desire is to share and encourage each other as we learn and experiment with new yarns and techniques.
Chinook Winds Casino
Periodically, day trips are planned to Chinook Winds Casino for a fun time of gaming. Trip includes a free bus ride provided by the casino. Reservations for the bus are required in advance. For more information contact Jo Anne Sallia at 503.862.4021.
Robin Hood Garden Club
The Robin Hood Garden Club is designed to promote interest and community awareness of plants, gardens and gardening through the sharing of skills, ideas and education. For more information contact Marty Brown at 503.862.4030.
Silver&Fit®
Reshape your life with Silver&Fit® classes offered through Medicare supplemental insurance programs. Program includes weekly fitness classes designed for Silver&Fit® members and include a combination of aerobics, flexibility and resistance/strength training. All members are welcome to attend.
SilverSneakers® Muscular Strength and Range of Movement (MSROM)
Have fun and move to the music through a variety of exercises designed to increase muscular strength, range of movement, and activity for daily living skills. Hand held weights, elastic tubing with handles, and a ball are offered for resistance, and a chair is used for seated and/or standing support.
SilverSneakers® Cardio Circuit
Combine fun with fitness to increase your cardiovascular and muscular endurance power with a standing circuit workout. Upper-body strength work with hand held weights, elastic tubing with handles, and a ball is alternated with non-impact aerobic choreography. A chair is offered for support, stretching, and relaxation exercises.
SilverSneakers® YogaStretch
Move your whole body through a complete series of seated and standing yoga poses. Chair support is offered to safely perform a variety of postures designed to increase flexibility, balance, and range of movement. Restorative breathing exercises and final relaxation will promote stress reduction and mental clarity.
SilverSneakers® SilverSplash
Activate your aqua urge for variety. SilverSplash offers plenty of movement to improve agility, flexibility and cardiovascular endurance. No swimming ability is required, and a special SilverSneakers® kickboard is used to develop strength, balance and coordination.
Silver&Fit® Level 2
Silver&Fit Level 2 is a social & upbeat group exercise class that is designed for moderately active older adults. Class alternates cardio exercises with total body muscle strengthening exercises using bands and dumbbells. Class is specifically designed to improve agility and core strength.
Silver&Fit® Zumba® Gold
With its eclectic mix of Latin dance and rock and roll rhythms, Zumba® Gold is guaranteed to move you, while utilizing a much softer pace for all to experience and enjoy. Zumba® Gold is more than a total body workout; it’s a "fitness-party" that is both motivational as well as pure fun.

What does it cost to participate in the Sherwood Teen Center?
Our Teen Center is free to any 6th – 12th grade student regardless of YMCA membership.
What is the policy for participating in the Sherwood Teen Center?
Teens interested in joining the Teen Center need to complete a short registration form in order to participate in any of our activities.
What activities do you offer through the Sherwood Teen Center?
Inside our Teen Center youth will find classic table top games like air hockey, ping-pong, foosball and pool tables alongside XBox, PS2 and Nintendo Wii games. In addition, we also offer regularly scheduled group activities like dances, homework club, service projects, athletics, classes and more.
What is the cost to participate in the Teen Center’s Middle School Dances?
Middle School Dances cost $8.
Is there a check-in policy for the Teen Center’s Middle School Dances?
Yes, our check-in procedure is the same as the Court dances. All students will be required to provide ID. Dances start at 7:30 p.m. and end at 10:30 p.m.

Is the Teen Center’s available to rent for birthday parties and other events or activities?

Are there any strength training classes or programs for my teen?
The Teen Strength Training class is designed to help young people (ages 12 – 14) learn how to use fitness equipment safely and effectively while developing an age-appropriate workout. Contact Doreen at 503.862.4022 for more information.
Who decides what activities or events take place at the Teen Center?
The Youth Advisory Council works with teens to plan Teen Center Events and make important decisions that impact the Teen Center.
Are parents allowed to get involved in the Teen Center?
Yes, we're always looking for teen volunteers for our Youth and Family programs. Our staff wants to partner with parents to help teens reach their full potential. For more information on serving in the Teen Center or at Teen Center events contact us at 503.825.9622.
What are some of the activities or classes made available through the Teen Center?
Throughout the year we offer a variety of activities and classes to help teens reach their full potential. Such activities or classes include (but are not limited to):
Traveling Teens
Fun filled trips. Approximate cost is $20 – $30 and includes transportation and one meal.
Babysitter Training
This class is designed to teach pre-teens and teens (ages 11 – 15) the fundamentals of babysitting.
Teen Fitness Club
This club is designed to help teens get energized about life and fitness. Working alongside their peers, we help teens build self-esteem while learning the importance of making positive changes.
Teen Pick-up Basketball
Friday afternoons at 3:30 p.m. – 4:30 p.m. on the Sport Court.
Teen Strength Training
This training is designed to help young people (ages 12 – 14) learn how to use fitness equipment safely and effectively while developing an age-appropriate workout.

What youth sports programs do you offer at the Sherwood Regional Family YMCA?
We offer a pre-competitive sports program for 3 – 8 year old boys and girls. Its primary objective is to help children learn the basic rules, skills and tactics of the sport using a unique "games approach" to instruction. The structure of the game is modified to be developmentally and age appropriate to maximize fun and success. To register for any of our youth sports programs please visit our Registration Page.
Youth Sports Leagues
Youth Indoor Soccer
Our leagues are for boys and girls ages 3 – 4 and 5 – 6 ready to learn the basics of soccer.
Basketball League
Our leagues are for youth ages 3 – 4, 5 – 6 and 7 – 8. Come learn the basics of the game invented at the Y.
T-Ball League
Our leagues are for youth ages 3 - 4 and 5 - 6, and designed to help them learn the fundamentals of the game.
Youth Sports Classes
Rock Climbing
Learn techniques, safety, commands and more. Third grade thru adults.
Open Rock Climbing
Challenge yourself during open climb on Monday and Wednesday from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. and Saturday from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Ages 5 and up.
Junior Sports
This is an introductory class focusing on the fun and basics of different sports. Ages 3 – 4.
Kinder Karate
Safe, fun environment to explore the martial arts. Ages 3 – 5.
Kempo Karate
Practical, defense-oriented martial arts.

Are there sports league sponsorships?
Yes. The YMCA offers financial assistance to those in need so their families can participate in programs regardless of ability to pay. You can help us to do that by becoming a Y Sports League sponsor. Businesses will receive recognition on team shirts, a plaque with team photo and recognition in YMCA literature.
