Can you give me more information about winter sports?
I haven’t heard from my coach yet, when will I know what team I’m on and my practice time and day?
Our volunteer coaches do their best to have all their players contacted by Monday, January 17th. On Monday January 17th by noon, the rosters and practice schedules will be posted on the website. (Please note that changes are often still being made to roster to accomodate waiting list players. Posted schedules are subject to change.) If you haven’t heard from your coach by January 18th feel free to call the office at 503.492.9890.

What do I do if the practice time that my team has doesn’t work for me?
Making changes to teams is difficult but not impossible. Teams are usually full with 10 to 11 players so making a switch involves other players moving as well. If you absolutely cannot make your practice time please call the office at 503.492.9890 and we will see if we can find a new team for you, though we cannot promise any changes. (Please note that making team changes will often result in having to order a new color shirt for your child. You will be charged $7 for the new shirt. Shirt reorders arrive from the printers at the second game.) If no solution can be found, we will give you a full refund.

Where does my team practice?
Our choice of schools is limited but we do our best to assign you to a team and a practice location that is as close as possible to your home. Your coach will call you with your practice time and location. You can also view the team rosters online beginning Monday January 17th.

When do practices begin?
Practices begin the week of January 17th. Each team will practice once per week.

When do games begin?
Games are played Saturdays from January 29th through March 12th.

It’s past registration deadline, can I still get on a team?
After January 3rd an additional $5 fee will be applied. Online registration will remain open until teams are full. Once online registration closes you will be placed on a first come first served waiting list. To be placed on the waiting list please Contact Us at 503.492.9890. Those that register after the deadline may receive their team shirt after the first game.

Will I be able to play with the player or coach I requested?
While we cannot guarantee that you will be granted your requests, every effort is attempted to accommodate player and coach requests. Of course if you volunteer to coach, your child will be on your team.

Practice
Practice will begin the week of January 16th and games start January 28th. Most games are on Saturdays. Your coach will contact you about practice times and locations.

Please note that our programs use schools in the Gresham Barlow and Reynolds School Districts, while we make every attempt to accommodate all practice requests we are not always able to. By registering your child for our programs you are agreeing to transport them to one of the schools in our practice area.

Practice times are subject to change with short notice. We make every attempt to avoid changes in the schedule but schools often have last minute changes in their schedules that affect our practice times.

Inclement Weather Policy
YMCA programs follow the lead of the local school districts regarding cancellations due to weather conditions. If the school you practice at is closed for the day or closed early due to weather, your practice will also be canceled. We will send out an email as well as post on the website in the event of program cancellations.

Please Contact Us at 503.492.9890 with any questions or concerns.

Eastside Community Sports is a partnership program between the Mt. Hood YMCA and Gresham, Barlow, and Reynolds school districts that offers competitive Girls Volleyball, Boys Basketball, and Girls Basketball at each school. Students who want to play for their schools team need to register and tryout at their school. After tryouts the names of the students who have made the team will be posted at the school office after the last lunch. This league is competitive and playing time is not guaranteed. Eastside Communtiy Sports Leagues follow OSAA playing rules.

Cost
Cost per participant is $80 paid at the parent meeting. Financial assistance is available for anyone who has free or reduced lunch. If you child does not make the team your payment will be refunded.

Mandatory Parent Meetings

Parent meetings are set up at each school where parents will learn the expectations of the league, can ask questions about the league, register their child and make payment.

Why does Eastside Community Sports exist?

Eastside Community Sports was birthed out of necessity due to school budget cuts and the elimination of several middle school sports. In response, Mt. Hood YMCA formed partnerships between Gresham, Barlow, and Reynolds school districts to provide competitive girls volleyball and basketball, and boys basketball at each of their schools.

How can a student become involved with Eastside Community Sports?

Students who want to play for their schools team need to register and tryout at their school. After tryouts the names of the students who have made the team will be posted at the school office after the last lunch.

How does Eastside Community Sports compare to other Y Sports leagues?

Unlike other Y Sports programs, this league is competitive and playing time is not guaranteed. Eastside Communtiy Sports Leagues follow OSAA playing rules.

How does one register for Eastside Community Sports?

Registration forms can be picked up at the schools office or from the Mt. Hood YMCA office located at 223 Buxton Ave. Troutdale, OR 97060. Registration forms are also available at all parent meetings.

How do tryouts work with Eastside Community Sports?

Every participating school requires players to tryout for Eastside Community Sports. Players will be judged by a panel of judges. Top scores will be invited to be on a team.

What is the average side of a team with Eastside Community Sports?

On average teams consist of 10-13 players.

How do practices work with Eastside Community Sports?

Every team has practice at their middle school, thus no need to travel far. Teams practice twice per week.

How does Eastside Community Sports define a season?

(7th and 8th Grade divisions)
Each season consists of ten regular season games. Each team will have 5 home games and 5 away games during their regular season play. Having home games allows parents, friends, and family members to come watch and cheer on the home team. Both 7th and 8th grade teams will play at the same location with the 7th grade game beginning at 6:00pm and the 8th grade game starting right after at 7:15. For example if Clear Creek middle school has a home game against Dexter McCarty 7th grade game would start at 6:00pm and 8th grade game start would start after that game in the same gym at 7:15.
