· Minimum age 18.
· Experience working with youth.
· First Aid and CPR Certifications or ability to obtain prior to 1st day of employment.

General Function
Work with the Activities Director, Cabin Counselors, Leadership Team and other Program Staff to create a high-quality experience for every camper. Ensure the safety, well-being and personal growth of campers. Be an active and supportive member of the Team and the Unit and a positive member of the entire staff community. The Mountain Biking Specialist must demonstrate positive, professional role modeling at all times, acting in a manner that is consistent with the staff code of conduct and the philosophy, goals, and objectives of YMCA Camp Collins.
Essential Functions Of Job
- 1. Incorporate and Model our YMCA Christian principles of love, respect, honesty, responsibility and service into your work.
- 2. Commit to establishing long-term relationships with staff, volunteers, campers and families.
- 3. Ensure the Physical and Emotional Safety of Every Camper
- a. Follow high standards for participant safety in Mountain Biking program area.
- b. Ensure that campers and staff adhere to safety guidelines in Mountain Biking program area.
- c. Be aware of times or activities that may involve a high degree of emotional or social risk for campers and work to mitigate these risks.
- d. Use discipline in a constructive and positive manner that is consistent with the policies of YMCA Camp Collins.
- e. Handle all situations involving camper safety in a timely manner.
- f. Report any suspicions of child abuse immediately to the Summer Program Director.
- i. With the Summer Program Director’s assistance, call the Metro Tri County Hotline.
- ii. Document the situation and complete an incident report form.
- 4. Develop and Improve Mountain Biking Education Programming
- a. Create and/or research fun, informative, and engaging Mountain Biking activities.
- b. Keep organized records of weekly lesson plans.
- c. Lead Mountain Biking Specialty, evaluate and improve curriculum and maintain Mountain Biking Handbook.
- d. Assist the Environmentalist in Wilderness Living Specialty and other activities and program development.
- e. Develop and lead other Mountain Biking activities as needed.
- 5. Provide Engaging and Positive Activity Instruction in Mountain Biking Program Areas
- a. Create clear expectations at the start of the activity.
- b. Get campers and staff enthused about the subject matter.
- c. Demonstrate positive role modeling at ALL times.
- d. Keep campers engaged and enthusiastic about activities.
- e. Develop creative and age-appropriate teaching methods.
- f. Work to improve your teaching skills by learning from your co-workers, asking questions and being open to suggestions.
- i. Complete a self-evaluation and participate in discussions with the Activities Director about successes, areas of improvement, and goals.
- 6. Be a Positive Member of the Staff Community
- a. Be an active participant in the cabin in which you live.
- i. Support the Cabin Counselor.
- ii. Get to know the names of each camper in the cabin.
- b. Work to establish and maintain positive relationships with ALL staff throughout the summer.
- c. Communicate openly and honestly with ALL staff.
- d. Deal with problems or concerns in a timely and professional manner.
- e. Take responsibility for your actions and your words.
- f. Avoid gossip and do your part to eliminate it from the camp community.
- g. Actively participate in creating Chapels and Theme Weeks.
- h. Communicate regularly with the Activities Director.
- i. Ask for help when needed.
- j. Fulfill staff duties, such as Saturday clean-up, with a positive attitude and willingness to help.
- a. Be an active participant in the cabin in which you live.
