A Spirit of Service

Here at the Y, service is at the heart of everything we do. Our staff and volunteers do their best to model that spirit of service, both in and outside the Y, and we appreciate that. That’s why we’d like to take the time to recognize Corinn deWaard.

Corinn has recently been honored with the Kenyon T. Bement Award by the Rotary Club of Portland. This award is presented to a member of the Rotary Club whose contributions to the club and to the community exemplify an exceptional spirit of the Rotary motto: Service Above Self.

Corinn chairs the Domestic Violence Solutions Committee of the Rotary Club and leads the new Strategic Community Initiative intended to increase awareness in the workplace of the pathology and markers of Domestic Violence.

The initiative focuses attention on local resources for victims by developing an education/resource kit for business and organization owners and managers. The kit is intended to be available and adaptable for use by Rotary Clubs in any community, and the hope is that this will become a nationwide initiative.

The Y is for social responsibility. By reaching out and being involved in the communities we serve we know we can make a difference. Thank you, Corinn, for your service to the community, for being a true ambassador of the Y and for working so hard to help make a difference.
